AI is increasing used to pre-screen job applicants, but the final selection process for most jobs will still involve being interviewed. This session is a guide to preparation for interview focusing on the core format for every interview and building the essential skill of personal narrative.

  • Essential ‘dos and don’ts’ for any interview

 

Being ‘match-fit’ for prospective employers is tough, especially when you don’t know what they’re looking for. We help students to understand the key ingredients of any strong candidate, intern or new employee and explain how we can all improve our offer to employers.

  • How to mentally and practically prepare for work experience placements or first jobs


Employers face a substantial softs skills challenge with graduate or first-time employees; they often lack the basic core skill set required to operate effectively and professionally in a workplace. We define the difference between Public (Workplace) and Private (School and private life) Personas.

Employers regularly access our digital profile to assess our suitability for employment. Most of what we post stays published forever, so what we post is a valuable source of information for employers keen to assess us.

This session shows how to manage and edit our online presence to present the best version of ourselves to employers..

  • Creating a more positive and professional digital persona


First impressions are important, but an employer’s first impression of us is usually through our CV. This simple 2-page document packs quite a punch but if badly written will almost certainly mean that we won’t get an interview.

This session presents a guide to writing the best, simplest, and most impactful core, and adapted CVs .

 

Learning outcomes – Students will have an awareness of:

  • Understanding what a CV should offer.

  • How to talk about ourselves in CV.

  • Building the core CV, and adapting it for each application.
